Sail aboard the ketch Silverheels from Panama to Florida ~ late
March

This late-March, I'm planning to sail the good ketch
Silverheels from Bocas del Toro, Panama non-stop to Green
Cove Springs (near
Jacksonville), Florida, USA. I'd
like to take along 2 or 3 crew for that
±12-day offshore passage,
male or female, but (sorry) no couples. Both Silverheels and I are experienced ocean voyagers.
Check out my resume for details.
We'll set
sail on or about March 25th, subject to the usual caveats: weather forecasts, jump-ups,
karma, etc. Our route will carry us about 1,600 nautical miles
from Bocas
del Toro to Jacksonville, much of it running with the Gulf Stream. In addition to
the ±12 days of sailing, there'll be a couple
of days
at each end of the trip for preparation, decompression and
straightening up, so plan to be aboard for a little over 2 weeks
altogether.
-
Crewmembers
pay for their transportation to and from the boat and chip in for
groceries. The captain pays all boat expenses.
-
Non-US
citizens MUST have a valid visa or visa exemption for the United
States, and show it to the captain before moving aboard for
the trip.
If
you're interested in making this offshore passage,
please email me
with ALL of the following information:
-
A summary
of your sailing experience
-
Any
applicable skills you possess (mechanic, chef, medical, fishing, etc.)
-
Three (3)
applicable references
-
Dietary
restrictions/preferences (vegetarian, vegan, kosher, etc.)
-
Your
physical description (sex, age, height, weight,
physical condition, nationality, and recent photo)
-
Your
schedule restrictions. (Can you wait around for a more favorable
weather window? Do you need to get back by a certain date for
work, school, etc?)
-
Where you
saw my crew-wanted ad
-
Plus
anything else you can think of to give me an idea of how you'd
fit in and fare as a crew member.

One other
thing: Please do not ask to come on this long ocean passage unless you know from actual experience that you don't get seasick
offshore. It's OK if you use medication - pills, patches, whatever
- to suppress the effects of seasickness, as long as you know in
advance that they work for you without knocking you out, with
the net result that you are not sick and can stand your watches,
help sail the boat and cook when it's your turn. Seasickness is
miserable; in rare cases it can be fatal, and there is no getting
off the boat and onto land during an offshore passage. For your
sake and everyone else's aboard, don't come if you don't know.
Thanks.
I look
forward to hearing from you,
